Unwanted Candy?

Give it Away!

By Fort Mill Macaroni Kid October 30, 2022

You've spent the whole night trick-or-treating and as your child sits on the living room floor or at the kitchen table counting pieces, you wonder: what now? There have been years that we literally reused candy from one Halloween into the next, simply because of the abundance and the selection that remained.

Thankfully, we don't have to do that anymore ~ here are a few options for you to get rid of all that sugary goodness near home!

1. Portion out bags and drop at the Rock Hill Community Fridge so people who may not have been able to trick-or-treat can also enjoy the spoils.

2. Give it to local school teachers - many teachers like to have candy on hand for classroom prizes; help them out so they don't need to spend their own hard-earned money!

3. Sell it back to a dentist: Several area dentists are buying back candy - like the flyer above from Lake Wylie Pediatric Dentistry and Carolina Kids Dentistry in Waxhaw.

3. Give it to the fire department! The Tega Cay Fire Department is collecting candy at 7200 Tega Cay Dr, Tega Cay

4. Create a Switch Witch ~ check out the basics in this oldie-but-goodie article! The overall pretense is that your children can pick some of the candy they want and then trade in the rest for cash or a toy from the switch witch. This way, they are still getting something they want and not ingesting all that sugar!

Whatever you do, have fun with it and remember - I really like Milky Ways ;-)
