Teaching our children empathy and connection to the community is a goal we all share as parents. One way that we can do that is by volunteering in our community. October 22 is National Make a Difference Day, here are some places you can volunteer with your children and teens in the Greater Charlotte Area.
Charlotte
The Raptor Center: Become a junior docent (6th grade and up) and help educate visitors to the center.
Loaves and Fishes: Children are welcome on weekends to sort and pack food
Classroom Central: Volunteers needed to make materials, sort materials, and a variety of remote volunteering opportunities.
Share Charlotte: This is a one-stop database for places in Charlotte to volunteer, you can sort by activity and the ages of children who want to volunteer.
Union County
Humane Society: Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, help with the pet food pantry, help at special events as well as meet and greets.
Bright Blessings: Offering open volunteer sessions, ways you can volunteer from home, and hosting purpose parties, Bright Blessings' mission to is support local homeless children by providing items for new babies, birthday parties, and more.
Union County Library (ages 14 and up): help reshelve books and volunteer at special events

Anne Springs Greenway: There is a need for volunteers to help at special events, work in the community garden, and care for the chickens.
Classroom Ready: Help give back to your local schools! Volunteers are needed to run supply drives, help make materials, and pack backpacks.
Catawba Riverkeepers: Opportunities throughout the year to help clean up the river.
