5 Favorite Follows and Finds for Busy Parents

By Hannah Mulvihill, Contributor and Owner of Perfect Balance Training Center February 14, 2022

Some people get endorphins from working out, I do too, but oddly enough, I swear I get endorphins from a good follow or find with good information! And we all know, “endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t kill their husbands, they just don’t!” If you didn’t grab this Legally Blonde reference, stop what you’re doing rightnow and rewatch the movie because it’s the most quotable movie of all time, but I digress.

All of this to say, I have some favorite mom influencers, podcasts and books (audible duh) that I hope might give some of you these same endorphins so you don’t kill your husbands. Or anyone for that matter.

  1. The Momologue Podcast- Chrissy Brunke (@chrissybrunke) and Janey Kaspari (@janeykaspari) are hilarious, real and full of life experience. They’re different in so many ways, but they laugh and giggle and tell the truth about their own lives and experiences. I listen to them at night on my way home from work and dream that I’m at a girl’s night with my wine club laughing about the peaks and valleys of motherhood, marriage, friendships, work and just life in general. While they are honest, they are lighthearted and fun, totally worth adding to your rotation if you’re into a podcast!
  2. “Take Back Your Time- The Guilt-Free Guide to Life Balance” by Christy Wright- this book is so good, and a great reminder for all of us, moms or not, that are trying to juggle 50,000 to-do’s a day while maintaining friendships, marriage and honestly, sanity. I am listening to it on Audible, which I love, because her tone is clear but easy to listen to. Christy adds in her own life experiences examples, and so many of us can relate to this! If you are looking for balance, or even looking to re-balance, as we do, this book is a great pick-up!
  3. The Lazy Genius (Kendra Adachi)- I love all things Lazy Genius, Kendra has a podcast called, The Lazy Genius, a NYT Bestseller, “The Lazy Genius Way,” and a new book coming out May 3rd called, “The Lazy Genius Kitchen.” Her motto is to be a genius about the things that matter, and lazy about the things that don’t. Which is genius although seems like it should be a given, we all need this reminder! We all have different things that matter, so Kendra walks her readers through deciding what those things are and aren’t, and how to start to prioritize clearly, so we can enjoy our lives rather than stress about things that aren’t worth our energies.
  4. Simply on Purpose and Big Little Feelings- both Instagram accounts are awesome follows! I have young kids (6, 2 and 1), so keep that in mind here, but I think these would be applicable for mamas with kids up to probably 12. Always remember, you don’t have to agree with everything on anyone’s Instagram for their content to be relatable or helpful for you! Take what seems pertinent to your life and your family and leave what isn’t. I have found so much solace in some of the tips that these ladies share, and they’re gentle approach with us new and learning mama’s is easy to process and absorb.
  5. How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen- moms with small children, run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore, Android or Apple product and get yourself a copy of this book! A behavior therapist recommended this book to me and it has been life-changing! No matter your parenting style, this book is everything you could ask for if you have a future attorney like mine on your hands. I struggle so much to communicate effectively with my oldest because, like most of you, I’m tired, he's tired, we’re all overwhelmed and burnt out and don’t have much left in the tank. This book changed my perspective on effective communication with my children and gives real life tools for you to use in specific scenarios. Grab it, read it or listen to it, thank me later.

May these gems bring you all the endorphins, because "happy people just don’t kill their husbands."
