Kid Friendly New Year's Eve and New Year's Day Charlotte Area Events

New Year's Eve

Noon Year's Eve~Town of Matthews


Friday, December 31, 2021 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Noon Year’s Eve Party inside Fullwood Theater. Activities include a DJ, balloon drop, and entertainment acts. Ages 4 and up, masks required for ages 5 and up. Tickets are $5 and parents are required to stay with their kids at the party. 

Jumpin' Jax of Lancaster

Balloon Drop at Noon and 3PM
Join Jumpin' Jax of Lancaster for a balloon drop to bring in the new year! Tickets are required. Details available on the company website. 

Whitewater Center Trail Race and Ice Skating 

Spend the day ice skating and then hit the trail for their annual New Year's Eve Trail Run. The race starts at 5:00 PM and ice skating is open during regular center hours. 

Kate's Skate

Discounted skates and admission during the day. Kate's Skate is open from 1:00 PM-9:00 PM. They will have games, prizes, and activities all day. All locations are participating

Charlotte New Year's Eve

Head to South Tryon St. at Levine Avenue of the Arts at 8:00 PM for the return of Charlotte's New Year's Eve celebration. Activities include fireworks, DJ, live music, and seeing Queen Charlotte's Crown lit at midnight! 

Carowinds Winterfest

Beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 12:30 AM, Winterfest at Carowinds will be extra special. In addition to Winterfest activities, there will be live music, fireworks, and a countdown to the New Year. 

Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens

Holiday's at the Garden ends January 2, 2022. Enjoy the beautiful lights and grab dinner at one of the food trucks. Advance purchased tickets are required. 


New Year's day

First Footin at Rural Hill

Good luck will abound if you start the new year off with a hike. Take part in this Scottish Tradition at Rural Hill. The event begins at 10:00 AM and ends at noon with a stone soup blessing. Rural Hill asks that you bring something for the luncheon, there is a list of items on the Facebook event page. 

Family Hike Reedy Park 

Meet at the Reedy Park Nature Center for a ranger-guided hike. This 2-mile hike begins at 2:00 PM.  

Baxter Village Gnome Run

Start the new year off with a run! You can hit the 10 mile run (good for you!) or the 5K. The race ends with a New Year's Day good luck lunch complete with pulled pork and black-eyed peas. Children under 10 are free with an adult participant.
