Out of Town Guest? Unique Events for Thanksgiving Weekend

Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? Need some ideas to keep the family busy or do you just want to show off our beautiful area? Here are some happenings in our area on Thanksgiving weekend: 

November 24, 2021 

Cookies with Santa at Coco and the Director (Information from FB event) 

Kick-off the holiday season, Charlotte-style! For only $35, purchase your ticket for Cookies with Santa at Coco and the Director, and you will receive a General Admission Ticket along the Parade route. Cookies with Santa will take place from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm at Coco and the Director on Wednesday, November 24. The reception includes your choice of Barista Craft Hot Chocolate, Milk, Apple Cider, or locally roasted Coffee; a selection of (1) Manifesto Cookie (chocolate chunk, Lemon Blueberry or Salted Caramel); your choice of Fruit Cup or Rice Treats and a photo with Santa. This is a ticketed event, advance purchase is required. 

Thanksgiving Day Parade (Information from FB event) 

Thanksgiving Day Parade is a Charlotte tradition with six decades of history behind it, growing to its impressive reputation as the fourth largest of its kind in the country and the biggest in the Southeast. In 2019, the event drew 110,000 live spectators and 2 million household viewers via broadcast. People were watching online all over the world from Washington to Mexico to Sweden! In 2020, we produced a virtual parade with local performers and looking back on some of our favorite parade memories.

Movies at Piedmont Social House (Runs until 11/28. Information from FB event) 

Kick off the holiday season with holiday movies on the bowling lanes!

Speedway Christmas (Information from their website. Speedway Christmas runs nightly) 

One of the Southeast’s largest and most-anticipated holiday traditions, Speedway Christmas presented by Continental Tire and Tire Pros features four million lights strewn across a remarkable four-mile course, with hundreds of creative displays and lights synchronized to Christmas-themed music. The show is open 6-10 p.m. rain or shine and also features synchronized lights to music on 101.3 FM.

November 25, 2021 

Southpark Turkey Trot 

This Charlotte area classic 5K. Hit the streets of Southpark for a beautiful morning out before you hit the stuffing. 1 mile, 5K, and 8K options. 

Charlotte Turkey Dash 

Head to the Village at Robinson Farms for a family-friendly morning out. 1 and 4-mile options.

November 26, 2021 

Polar Express at the NC Transportation Museum (Runs 11/26-11/28 and select dates in December)

Bundle the kids up for the most magical train ride outside of the North Pole.  

Tanglewood Festival of Lights (Runs through the end of December)

You had me at S'moresville~ A little over an hour away in Clemmons, NC is one of the best light displays in our area. Santa, hayrides, a Christmas Village and so much more. 

Winterfest at Carowinds

Escape to the magic of Winterfest! Carowinds does an amazing job of turning the park into a festive and magical experience for the whole family.

Charlotte Hornets

Have a basketball fan in town? The Charlotte Hornets take on the Timberwolves at 7:00 PM

OMB Christmas Market (Information from their Facebook event, Runs 11/26-11/28) 

Come and experience the magic of the season at OMB’s 10th Annual Christmas Market! OMB’s Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) is a truly unique experience unlike any other in the Charlotte area. We transform our biergarten into a German-style Christmas Village with traditional huts for shopping, holiday music, tons of lights, Gluhwein (our spiced wine pronounced "Gloo-vine,") hot cocoa, festive food, warm fire pits, and of course there will be plenty of beer, including seasonal favorites Yule Bock and Dunkel!

 

November 27, 2021 

Ice skating returns to Whitewater Center

Lace up your skates and hit the WWC, this is one activity that is fun for the whole family.

Charlotte Checkers Game

Take the family to cheer on the Checkers! Our local hockey team plays at 6:00 tonight. This game will honor veterans and active-duty military. Service members are able to get tickets at 50% off

Yoga on the Greenway 

Take the crew to Anne Springs Greenway for $5 by the Dairy Barn

Founders Ice Rink Rock Hill (Information taken from their website) 

Skate your way into the holiday season at our 50’ x 85’ REAL ice rink and start a new family tradition. Tickets are $15 for all ages and are available at the ice rink. The fee includes your ice skate rentals.
