ABC My Hair and Me~ A Must Have Addition to Your Child's Bookshelf

By South Charlotte Macaroni Kid August 15, 2021

One of the best things about Macaroni Kid is our ability to help introduce our readers to the amazing local community members we have in Charlotte. When Miyosha reached out to share her book, ABC My Hair and Me with us, I knew right away that our readers needed to meet her! Her book is so special and while the topic is about loving your natural hair, there is an important message for all children (and adults) about self-love and seeing the beauty not only in ourselves but in others as well.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

Long hair, short hair, curly hair, wet hair, all hair is beautiful, and you are too!

ABC My Hair and Me assists your little one in recognizing the alphabets along with loving and caring for their hair.
There is a lot to learn about your hair, and the ABCs want in on the fun too!

INSPIRATION:

As a child, I struggled with accepting my naturally curly hair and often wished it was different.  After having a daughter of my own, I witnessed her going through the same experiences I did as a child despite my efforts to fill our home with books and toys that reflected her.  Upon talking to family and friends, I realized hair love is commonly a sensitive topic.  The comparison of textures, lengths, and styles results in an unhealthy impression that impacts confidence and self-esteem.  By reaching children at an early age, and allowing them to see hair variations as well as encouragement that all hair is good hair, and they are beautiful no matter what will assist in negating bias beauty standards thus increasing confidence.  It is my goal to release a collection of early educational literature that combines embracing your naturally beautiful hair with learning.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I have also released a coloring book, My Hair and Me Kids Coloring and Activity Book.  I am currently working on my 3rd book, 123 My Hair and Me, to be released by the end of this year.

Meet the Author:  Miyosha Streets
"From London to Liberty and everyone in between, may you be forever represented and always seen." - Miyosha Streets

Proudly born and raised with grace and southern charm in Marion, South Carolina, Miyosha Streets, always had big dreams and the visions to match.  It wasn't until after getting married, and having her delightful little ones that being an author was added to the list.
With a passion for building self-confidence and boosting self-esteem in children, Miyosha created ABC My Hair and Me to counteract the old beauty standards as well as increase diversity and inclusion in children's literature.  ABC My Hair and Me is the first book released in the My Hair and Me educational book collection.
