By Heather McCloskey December 13, 2019

This week, Code Ninjas Fort Mill/Tega Cay is helping students unlock the power of coding by hosting “Hour of Code™ sessions and a "Holiday Hackathon" competition!

The Hour of Code™ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming. Code Ninjas is offering Bring-A-Friend week through Saturday for children of all skill levels to discover the wonders of coding. No experience needed!

On Sunday, Code Ninjas will celebrate with their first annual Holiday Hackathon, where ninjas will be challenged to develop their own video game for a chance to win fantastic prizes both locally and nationally! For two hours, attendees will work in teams of two to build a game in Scratch, a block-based visual programming language. Games will be judged on creativity, originality, quality, theme, and functionality. The highest scoring teams will win prizes at the local level, and go on to compete against other top teams from across the country! Participation in the Holiday Hackathon is FREE and the event is open to the public, however you must register as space is limited! You can register for the event HERE. Please note that Code Ninjas is also accepting donations for the York County Toys for Tots organization, and your donation would be appreciated!

The excitement doesn’t end this week! Once the kids are out of school, you can keep their brains busy at one or more of the exciting Code Ninjas Day Camps. Each program will take place from 9-4:00 and is packed full of fun and engaging activities that include coding, game-building, and robotics! Children ages 7-14 are welcome to attend and Code Ninjas has a variety of themes to choose from including a Super Smash Brothers Tournament, Roblox & Robots, Game Builders’ Club and more!
