The Importance of Regular Dental Exams

Treat Your Pearly Whites Well ~ Schedule the Whole Family Today

By Orchard Grove Family Dentistry May 30, 2023

While we know it’s not the MOST exciting, it's one of the most crucial for your overall health - and particularly your oral health: regular dental checks! Yep, we're diving into the world of teeth, gums, and all things dental. So, grab your toothbrush, sit back, and let's get started!

Now, we know that going to the dentist isn't exactly everyone's favorite activity. The sound of drilling, those sharp instruments near your precious pearly whites—it can be a bit nerve-wracking. But here's the thing: early diagnosis of dental issues can make a world of difference in keeping your smile healthy and vibrant. Believe me, prevention is way better than dealing with the consequences down the road.

The sooner you catch a dental problem, the easier and less expensive it usually is to treat.

Not only can early diagnosis save you from potential toothaches and more complex treatments, but it can also spare you the agony of dealing with advanced dental problems. A throbbing toothache is no fun at all. It can disrupt your sleep, make it hard to concentrate, and affect your overall well-being. By catching issues early, you can nip those small issues in the bud and get back to enjoying life without dental drama.

When it comes to dental health, early diagnosis doesn't just benefit your teeth; it also keeps your gums in check. Gum disease is a serious issue. If left untreated, it can lead to gum recession, tooth loss, and even impact your overall health. Recent studies have shown that gum disease has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic conditions.

So what are the barriers to regular dental exams?

  • Anxiety or prior bad experiences
  • Cost
  • Time

The reality is, scheduling regular preventative care (regular dental appointments), can save you all of that! You are less likely to need substantial treatments that often cause anxiety and you are less likely to have major problems that are expensive and time-consuming!

At Orchard Grove Family Dentistry, our team wants to put you at ease - we understand that this isn’t your favorite appointment of the year, but it doesn’t have to be your least!

  • We tackle your anxiety and put you at easy by providing:
    • Relaxing environment,
    • Consistency w/ provider,
    • A focus on education w/ photos & imaging so you understand and can ask questions.
    • Comfort menu: weighted blankets, Bluetooth headphones, stress ball
  • We are In Network with many plans, but for patients without dental benefits we provide in-house membership discount plans and work with you on financing your dental treatments by providing Care Credit
  • We appreciate that your time is valuable and try to minimize your time in our office and in the chair. To do this:
  • We only schedule one patient at a time with doctor, you will not sit and wait
  • We use scanner technology: can do most crown and bridge without impressions, less time in a temporary, get the final restoration faster

Early diagnosis of dental issues is a super important part of maintaining a healthy smile. It saves you from unnecessary pain, helps you avoid more complex treatments, and keeps your overall health in check. Don't wait until your tooth is throbbing or your gums are bleeding—make those dental appointments and take charge of your oral health. Your smile will thank you!
